Committees

Fund Development

Michael A. Guynn and Margaret Penn

Bill Merritt, Consultant

The committee anticipates 2007 to be an exciting year as it relates to NABSW ability to raise funds from non-traditional sources.

During the January 2007 Steering Committee meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, the committee presented several proposals for consideration. It is projected that implementation of these proposals will commence with the 39th National Conference in Detroit, Michigan. Those proposals constitute the major committee goals for 2007-2008.

In January 2007, the National Steering Committee approved the Fund Development Committee proposal to utilize the NABSW web site to the fullest extent. It was recommended the potential for web site advertising be fully operationalized to create a new revenue stream. This initiative will enable the organization to off set the cost associated with web site maintenance as well generate a revenue source to augment the general fund.

The committee also presented a second proposal at the January 2007 Steering Committee, and was granted approval to move forward with the "Buy-A-Brick Campaign.” This proposal represents another opportunity for the organization to generate revenue through a vehicle that allows membership to purchase engraved commemorative bricks that will be prominently displayed in the NABSW National Office front yard walkway. Bricks may be engraved to honor or memorialize the legacy of an individual, loved one, or family name. The kick-off of this initiative will commence with the 2007 National Conference in Detroit, Michigan.

Although not approved, a third proposal for the development of a collaborative agreement to sell personalized children’s books, will be considered for further development in the committee forward planning during 2007. The opportunity to offer these books during the 2008 National Conference has the prospect for profit revenue resulting from financial incentive contained within the collaborative agreement.

The proposed agreement will clearly state the profit for NABSW on each book sold. The collaborative partner will charge a shipping fee on all orders that will ship within 3 weeks of the conference close. A record of sales and profits will be submitted to the NABSW Finance Committee within 60 days of the National Conference.
