Miami Pre-Cruise Rolling Workshop
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Learn about the Afro-Caribbean culture of Miami with visits to the museums, shops and art galleries of Little Haiti, Little Havana and other communities. See how street art, wall murals and mosaics transformed a warehouse district into the Wywood Walls Art District. Learn about today’s economic and social challenges. Full-Day tour with lunch plus overnight at hotel in Miami included. Evening free to visit South Beach and other attractions.

Day 2, Saturday, August 11, 2018
Miami

Transfer from hotel to cruise port in Miami by motor coach. Check in and embark on MSC Seaside Cruise. Find your cabin and begin exploring the ship to locate the sports facilities, shopping boutiques, spa services, swimming pools, live show theaters, disco dancing, video gaming, main dining, and specialty restaurants. Then walk along waterfront promenade before the Welcome Reception. Ship sails at 7:00 PM.

Rolling Workshop
In-port hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
African slaves in Jamaica fought mightily for their freedom. Visit Seville Nouveau, a national heritage site and first settlement in Jamaica. Learn about the history and contributions of the Tainos and Maroon people, life on the plantation and the steps to independence. The Maroon's were Africans who escaped slavery and fought against the British. Then visit a local social service agency that address today's needs.

The Caymans was named for the “Cayman’s" or large lizards that inhabited the islands. Early settlers hunted turtles and were expert mariners and boat builders. British Royal Land Grants to develop settlements included the use of slaves. Today the main industries are financial services, tourism and real estate. Learn about the socio, economic and educational needs of today's communities. Visit a local social service agency.

Nassau, Bahamas

Africans were brought to Bahamas by way of Bermuda and directly from West Africa in the 17th century. Slaves from America earned their freedom and immigrated to the Bahamas by fighting for the British during the American Revolutionary War. After the War, British loyalist resettled in the Bahamas. This migration brought some 7000 slaves from the Gullah people in Georgia and the Carolinas. In the 1820s, hundreds of African American slaves and Seminoles escaped from Cape Florida to the Bahamas, settling mostly on northwest Andros Island. Learn how this African history has impacted the Bahamas.
